The Drum have finally arrived in the Delaware Bay this year, and are bitting good. These fish range for 50-90lbs and put up a good fight, don’t believe someone if they say its like reeling in a tire; because they probably never caught one. We are currently running Drum charters, so if you are thinking about going deep sea fishing in nj for Drum now is the time. Seabass Fishing In NJ

If your thinking about taking your family or friends deep sea fishing in NJ this Spring or early Summer Seabass fishing is the thing to do. Since the end of last Seabass fishing has been closed by the National Marine Fisheries, and it will reopen May 22 2010 and should be fantastic. This will be a great time to get out with your family and/or friends and have a fun and exciting day. These first few weekends into early June should be great, if you have any questions or are looking to do any other charter fishing in NJ give us a call.

If your thinking of going deep sea fishing in NJ this spring don’t think to hard because only a week away the Drum fishing will bust wide open. For a while you will be able to catch a mix of stripers and drum and then later in the spring it will switch over to all drum. Still have some prime dates available. We are currently getting $550 for 6hrs and $650 for 8hrs these prices are based on 6 passengers and include ice, bait, tackle, rods/reels. Monster Sized Striped Bass Hitting Hard!

Monster-sized striped bass have appeared in the Cape May rips and Delaware Bay, and their abundance and size has stopped the offshore tuna hunters in South Jersey dead in their tracks. Time For tournament Fishing in NJ

August is a busy tournament time for anglers based in southern New Jersey. Big-time, big-game competition offshore started a couple weeks back with the Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club’s White Marlin Invitational, followed by the White Marlin Open in Ocean City, Md., last week.

The Ocean City (N.J.) Marlin and Tuna Club Overnight Tournament is this week and the big Mid-Atlantic $500,000 is next week (Aug. 16-21) out of the Canyon Club Resort Marina in Cape May. Every week in August is covered up with an offshore contest because an Atlantic City-based tournament is scheduled for Aug. 23-29. It is the Tuna Stakes, which is headquartered locally at Sen. Frank S. Farley State Marina.

Deep Sea Fishing In NJ Update

Currently the flounder are moving out of the back bays and into the ocean around Wildwood, Cape May and Delaware Bay. The flounder fishing has been good and should improve even more at the water temp goes up. The shark season has come to an end for the summer this will resume again in the fall as the water cools. The Tuna are starting to show up now as the water temp rises and should be good in the next week or two, and should remain good till the end of August. Call for open dates some weekend dates are still available.

The Pros and Cons of a Head Boat Vs. Charter Boat

There is barely a day that goes by that we don’t get a call for someone looking for a head boat and not a charter boat. However, there is a very big difference between the two that most people don’t understand. A head boat is much like taking a bus leaving and returning at a special time each day. On a head boat you pay by the head (per person) a fare and ride and fish with other people who also pay there fare.

This has some benifits and some downsides; the benifits are the cost you pay on average is about $65 per person and you don’t need a reservation. This is only the real benifit to a head boat. Some of the downsides to a head boat are it can be over crowded, no personal service, some cases you never see your captain, you have to pay to rent a rod, and have to pay to have your fish cleaned. When chartering a boat; however it costs slightly more if you have 6 people.

We get $550 for the day that averages out to $90 per person, you don’t have to pay to rent a rod, and you get your fish cleaned for free. Some other advantages of a charter boat are you can leave and return on a schedule that is suitable to you and your crew. You also have your own personal service by both the Captain and the mate.

You can also set the tone for the day, it may be funny to you if one of your friends has been drinking all day and is loud; but it may not be funny to you if your stuck next to some guy that you don’t even know all day that has been drinking and is loud. On a head boat you have know choice as to where you are going, on the Tara Anne(charter boat) we discuss this with most charters, to see what is best for them.

Sometimes the wind direction may have the Ocean ruff and the Delaware Bay calm or visversa, this maybe important to some one that is prone to seasickness. There have been times we left a spot due to the wind and tie conditions to look for calmer water, and sometimes cut the charter short if the charter choices to do so. On a head boat even if 99% of the people are sick and there is still people fishing and time left they are going to stay on schedule.
