Monster-sized striped bass have appeared in the Cape May rips and Delaware Bay, and their abundance and size has stopped the offshore tuna hunters in South Jersey dead in their tracks. This is a typical fall run. When these big fish appear, everything stops and people get out as 35- and 40-pounders are common and fish over 45 pounds are not uncommon. Read the full story..
Below is good article I saw at pressofAtlanticCity.com
August is a busy tournament time for anglers based in southern New Jersey. Big-time, big-game competition offshore started a couple weeks back with the Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club’s White Marlin Invitational, followed by the White Marlin Open in Ocean City, Md., last week.
The Ocean City (N.J.) Marlin and Tuna Club Overnight Tournament is this week and the big Mid-Atlantic $500,000 is next week (Aug. 16-21) out of the Canyon Club Resort Marina in Cape May. Every week in August is covered up with an offshore contest because an Atlantic City-based tournament is scheduled for Aug. 23-29. It is the Tuna Stakes, which is headquartered locally at Sen. Frank S. Farley State Marina.

Even though the N.M.F.S insist that Mackerel is abundant in the area, just like the last few years we couldn’t find them. On a Bright note though the Delaware Bay Striper fishing is heating up. We heard from other Captains that a few nice sized black drum were also boated this weekend.
Out at the Seabass grounds there were reports of good Seabass catches in the 6 pound range. At the Tile grounds there were good catches of Blueline and Goldens some up to 45-47 pounds. Seems like the Doggies are biting pretty good so far this year. The bait choice for the tiles was squid while the Seabass were biting on Butterfly and Diamond jigs.
So, it looks like were off to a pretty good start and some GREAT fishing as we get closer to May.
We still have good dates for outings available but they are starting to fill up. If you’re thinking about going out Just give the OL’ Captain a call.

With spring finally here we’ve been working on getting the Tara Anne ready to go. She will be ready any day now.
The water temp has been in the 43-44 degree range and there are already reports of stripers hitting. Although it is a mixed bag right now with quite a few shorts there are definitely some keepers! Clams seem to be the bait of choice.
If you’ve been thinking of going out now is the perfect time to set up a trip. There are still good dates available.
We know the economy is tough right now and will work with you to ensure that your outing is affordable, exciting and fun!

Due to the tough economic situation the 5th annual Wildwood boat show and Expo has been cancelled. There was concern that because of the rough times there would be a small turnout of both customers and exhibitors.
The Fifth annual Wildwoods Boat Show is just around the corner. The dates are April 4-6 at the Wildwoods Convention center. Last years’ show was a great success with more than 100 major manufacturers showing off their latest boats and watercraft.
There will be boating and fishing workshops and seminars all 3 days along with a Fishing Expo with exhibitors showing and selling all the latest equipment and accessories.
Ticket to the show are $6 for adults, $4 for for children ages 12-18 and Free for kids under 12.

If you’re like me and getting itchy to toss a line in the water this is a great way to kick off the fishing season.
While the Deep Sea Fishing in NJ has been somewhat hampered by the unpredictable weather, don’t be fooled! There is still plenty of great fishing to be had at the New Jersey shore. If you’ve been fishing NJ for anytime then you know that fall can be an explosion of great fishing. Deep sea fishing NJ this time of year can be some of the best fishing you will ever experience. So, be patient calmer waters are only days away.
Even though the weather and high winds kept many boats at dock(including the Tara Anne) this week the boats that did make it out report very good catches. White Marlin, Swordfish and even a few nice yellow fins were all landed this week. Along with nice catches of Sea Bass, Croakers and Dolphin one that weighed in at over 45 pounds.
So if your a fishing nut like me there is still plenty of good weather and great fishing to be had!
Believe it or not labor day is here. What started out looking pretty gray has turned out wonderfully sunny. The crowds have once again returned, the beaches are filling up and out on the water the fishings just fine.
Even though for many labor day marks the end of the summer season, as far as the the deep sea fishing goes there is still plenty of time. Fluke fishing ends in about a week but there are plenty of big fish just waiting to be had.
If you’re undecided what to do this week, come on down and deep sea fish NJ, there’s never been a better time!
