Like his father, first mate Nick has been fishing since before he could walk. Whether experienced or a novice fishermen or fisherwomen Nick will help you land the bigger catches. He will help you set up, explain where you’re headed, give you a sense of what’s running and when to drop the lines.

The Pros and Cons of a Head Boat Vs. Charter Boat

Posted on Jun 18, 2009 under Charter Boats New Jersey, Charter Fishing NJ | No Comment

There is barely a day that goes by that we don’t get a call for someone looking for a head boat and not a charter boat. However, there is a very big difference between the two that most people don’t understand. A head boat is much like taking a bus leaving and returning at a special time each day. On a head boat you pay by the head (per person) a fare and ride and fish with other people who also pay there fare.

This has some benifits and some downsides; the benifits are the cost you pay on average is about $65 per person and you don’t need a reservation. This is only the real benifit to a head boat. Some of the downsides to a head boat are it can be over crowded, no personal service, some cases you never see your captain, you have to pay to rent a rod, and have to pay to have your fish cleaned. When chartering a boat; however it costs slightly more if you have 6 people.

We get $550 for the day that averages out to $90 per person, you don’t have to pay to rent a rod, and you get your fish cleaned for free. Some other advantages of a charter boat are you can leave and return on a schedule that is suitable to you and your crew. You also have your own personal service by both the Captain and the mate.

You can also set the tone for the day, it may be funny to you if one of your friends has been drinking all day and is loud; but it may not be funny to you if your stuck next to some guy that you don’t even know all day that has been drinking and is loud. On a head boat you have know choice as to where you are going, on the Tara Anne(charter boat) we discuss this with most charters, to see what is best for them.

Sometimes the wind direction may have the Ocean ruff and the Delaware Bay calm or visversa, this maybe important to some one that is prone to seasickness. There have been times we left a spot due to the wind and tie conditions to look for calmer water, and sometimes cut the charter short if the charter choices to do so. On a head boat even if 99% of the people are sick and there is still people fishing and time left they are going to stay on schedule.

Call Capt Joe for dates available or if you have any questions don’t hesitate to call.

If your thinking of going Deep Sea Fishing in NJ this is what is Happening Now!!!

Posted on Jun 04, 2009 under Charter Fishing NJ, Deep Sea Fishing NJ | No Comment

If your thinking of going Deep Sea Fishing in NJ this is what is Happening Now!!!  The Drum are bitting again with the full moon aproaching this weekend it maybe your last chance to catch them for this year.  The SeaBass fishing has been very good with lots of action and on some trips that action has been non-stop but  a lot have been throw backs.  With the water warming up the Fluke/Flounder should be moving out of the back bays now and moving into the range of the charter boats.  Some fluke are starting to be caught in the Ocean and Delaware Bay as of this writing so don’t wait any longer go out and go fishing; some prime weekend dates are still avaiable.

Bang on the Drum!!!

Posted on Apr 30, 2009 under Charter Fishing NJ, Deep Sea Fishing NJ | No Comment

If you’re thinking about drum fishing do not wait any longer; there here and bitting. These fish enter the Delaware Bay in Mid April and usually stay around till Mid June; they range from 20-90lbs and put up a great fight on light tackle. These fish can be caught during the day and also at night; we have always felt that the late afternoon to sunset is the best time to go. Not only on this trip will you get to catch a big fish, you will also be able to see a beautiful sunset. These early season Drum trips also can produce catches of Stripers. To Charter the Boat for one of these trips it is $650 for 8hrs up to 6 anglers. Ocassionally we run Open Boat (meaning you can come alone) Charters for these fish and we get $125 a person for 8hrs; if your intrested in this trip or any other deep sea fishing trip in NJ give us a call for avaiablity.

Delaware Bay Striper Fishing Has Been Good!

Posted on Apr 26, 2009 under Charter Boats New Jersey, Deep Sea Fishing NJ | No Comment

Even though the N.M.F.S insist that Mackerel is abundant in the area, just like the last few years we couldn’t find them. On a Bright note though the Delaware Bay Striper fishing is heating up. We heard from other Captains that a few nice sized black drum were also boated this weekend.

Out at the Seabass grounds there were reports of good Seabass catches in the 6 pound range.  At the Tile grounds there were good catches of Blueline and Goldens some up to 45-47 pounds. Seems like the Doggies are biting pretty good so far this year. The bait choice for the tiles was squid while the Seabass were biting on Butterfly and Diamond jigs.

So, it looks like were off to a pretty good start and some GREAT fishing as we get closer to May.

We still have good dates for outings available but they are starting to fill up. If you’re thinking about going out Just give the OL’ Captain a call.

Take a Kid Deep Sea Fishing in New Jersey

Posted on Apr 22, 2009 under Deep Sea Fishing NJ | No Comment

Take a kid fishing; they will have memories that will last them a lifetime.  If you choose a charter boat these hired captains should be able to put you on the fish; that kids of all will have no problem catching themselves.  These family type trips are among my personal favorite, because seeing a kid catch a fish for the first time, is as much fun for me as it is for the parents and grandparents.  Believe me these memories will last a lifetime; they did for me.  I can still recall being 8 or 9 and fishing with my father, brother, and grandfather; and I’m still hooked that is why I became a captain.  With the month of May approaching the SeaBass fishing should start inshore, these fish are great for a family trip, because they can be caught easily and in good numbers and frequently two at a time.  So  if your looking to spend some quality time with your kids and grandparents this summer, with no interuptions and time they will never forget; just go fishing!

Drum on the Horizon!!!

Posted on Apr 19, 2009 under Deep Sea Fishing NJ | No Comment

The striper fishing has seemed to slow down in the last few days but these fish are surely not gone yet. Drum fish are now starting to be caught in the Delaware Bay by anglers striper fishing. These fish will be pouring into the bay in the next week or two in great numbers. So if your thinking about doing any deep sea fishing in nj this spring, these are amazing fish to catch as they range from 20-90lbs and are great fighting on light tackle. We still have some weekend dates available so give us a call with any questions pertaining to these fish or if your interested in booking a trip. Also so keep in mind that May is a great month for seabassing.

Wont Be Long Now!

Posted on Mar 30, 2009 under Charter Boats New Jersey | No Comment

With spring finally here we’ve been working on getting the Tara Anne ready to go. She will be ready any day now.

The water temp has been in the 43-44 degree range and there are already reports of stripers hitting. Although it is a mixed bag right now with quite a few shorts there are definitely some keepers! Clams seem to be the bait of choice.

If you’ve been thinking of going out now is the perfect time to set up a trip. There are still good dates available.

We know the economy is tough right now and will work with you to ensure that your outing is affordable,  exciting and fun!
